Today, that growth continues, creating an opportunity to join us in a newly created role as Sexual Violence Kaimahi - Intake and Assessment. In this role, you will support individuals and whānau to create safer, more positive futures.
 
The Role
Reporting to the Sexual Violence Team Leader and working with our Sexual Violence Team, this role focuses on initial contact supporting survivors of sexual violence. The work is clinically driven and immediate, you will contact referred tāngata whaiora to understand their immediate needs to enhance safety and wellbeing.
 
A key part of the role is contributing to culturally responsive, whānau-centred practice aligned with Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Aviva's values of aroha, pono and tika. You'll work collaboratively with colleagues and sector partners, contribute to service improvement and quality assurance, and help maintain a safe, respectful and reflective team culture.
 
Key responsibilities include:
  • Make timely, compassionate initial contact with referred tāngata whaiora, walk-ins and callers to understand their immediate support needs.
  • Complete needs assessments covering safety, wellbeing, advocacy, mental health and crisis needs and provide short-term support where required.
  • Provide information about support options and refer tāngata whaiora to culturally specific services, ACC Sensitive Claims support, counselling and other specialist services.
  • Coordinate urgent practical support and advocacy relating to safety, health, Police, court processes and financial needs.
  • Develop safety plans, assess immediate safety concerns and risk, and coordinate responses with relevant internal and external agencies.
  • Maintain appropriate contact with tāngata whaiora who are waiting for allocation to ongoing support.
  • Provide clear information and support to parents of tamariki and rangatahi who have been harmed, including guidance on reporting and accessing support.
About You
The successful candidate will be a grounded, relational practitioner with a strong understanding of sexual violence dynamics, child safety and whole-of-whānau practice. You will bring warmth, resilience and sound professional judgement, along with the ability to navigate complexity while keeping safety at the centre.
 
What you'll bring:
  • Experience working with adults affected by sexual violence, family violence, crisis, trauma, mental health or other complex social needs
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, ideally in social work, psychology, mental health or a related field
  • Knowledge of social work frameworks, trauma-informed practice and evidence-based approaches relevant to sexual violence intake and assessment
  • Strong assessment, case management, safety planning, and relationship-building skills
  • A trauma-informed and survivor-centred approach to practice
  • Sound understanding of risk, confidentiality, professional boundaries and accurate documentation
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and external agencies
  • A commitment to reflective practice, teamwork and ongoing professional development
  • A full, clean driver's licence
