Aviva | Ōtautahi/Christchurch
  • Newly created leadership role with genuine scope to shape services
  • Lead and develop a specialist team supporting meaningful behaviour change
  • Join one of Canterbury's most respected family violence organisations
Shape what comes next. Lead services that help create lasting change.

At the heart of Aviva's work is a clear purpose: supporting whānau and communities to live safe and fulfilling lives free from family and sexual violence.

This newly created Team Leader role is an opportunity to take that kaupapa forward in a different way. Bringing together established services supporting people who are using, or at risk of using, violence, you will help build a stronger, more connected and increasingly visible service.

About the opportunity

Reporting to the Client Services Manager, Family Violence, you will lead a small team of three kaimahi and play a key role in shaping how Aviva's users of violence services evolve.

This is much more than keeping an existing service ticking over. You will bring consistency across programmes, develop your team, strengthen practice and look closely at what Aviva delivers, how it is delivered and where there are opportunities to do things even better.

You will provide guidance around complex cases, risk and safety planning and maintain a small caseload, keeping you connected to frontline mahi.

Just as importantly, you will get out into the sector. Building relationships, strengthening referral pathways and raising awareness of Aviva's services will be a significant part of the role. There is real scope here for someone who enjoys connecting people, developing services and turning good ideas into meaningful change.

What you'll bring
  • Strong family violence experience, including working with people using or at risk of using violence
  • Proven leadership, supervision or programme coordination experience
  • Strong case management and group facilitation capability
  • Confidence navigating complex cases, risk and safety planning
  • Strong whole-of-whānau and family violence practice knowledge
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and the confidence to represent Aviva externally
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, registered Social Worker status (or be able to obtain registration), or progress toward an appropriate qualification
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and culturally responsive practice
  • A full, clean driver's licence
Established sector knowledge and networks will be highly advantageous.

About You

You are a confident, grounded leader who can balance empathy with accountability. You enjoy developing people and creating clarity, but you are equally motivated by the bigger picture. You see where services could grow, where relationships could be stronger and where a different approach might lead to better outcomes.

You will be comfortable stepping into a role where there is already strong mahi underway, while having the confidence and curiosity to help shape what comes next.

Why Aviva

Aviva is widely respected for the quality of its services, its principled approach and its commitment to collaboration across the sector. Its culture is values-led, relational and people-centred, with a strong focus on wellbeing, reflective practice and professional support.

This is a full-time, predominantly on-site role. Some evening work and regional travel will be required, with flexibility available around family responsibilities.

If you are passionate about reducing family violence and want the opportunity to lead, influence and help shape services that support lasting change, we would love to hear from you.
