The Opportunity This is payroll with a broader remit.
Alongside taking responsibility for accurate and timely payroll delivery, you'll bring your HR knowledge, analytical thinking and improvement mindset to help shape how payroll and HR services operate into the future.
It's a strong opportunity for someone who enjoys getting the detail right, but naturally asks whether there might be a smarter way of doing things.
About the Role Reporting to the Senior Manager, HR, you'll be the trusted payroll SME working across payroll, HR operations, systems and reporting within a small onsite HR team.
The role is hands-on today but evolving. As elements of transactional activity transition into global shared services, you'll help improve and standardise processes, maintain confidence in local payroll delivery and use systems and data to create more effective HR and payroll services.
Key Responsibilities - Own accurate, timely and compliant end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring a high standard of accuracy.
- Act as the payroll subject matter expert, supporting collective bargaining, remuneration changes and evolving employment legislation.
- Produce and interpret payroll, headcount and HR reporting to support informed business decisions.
- Maintain the integrity of payroll, time and attendance and HR systems, working closely with local and global teams.
- Provide practical HR operational support across key employee processes, documentation and compliance programmes.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve payroll processes, systems and ways of working.
About You You'll be an experienced payroll professional who can take ownership, apply sound judgement and operate confidently as the payroll expert within the business.
You'll ideally bring:
- Significant payroll experience, ideally alongside broader HR administration exposure, within a medium or large organisation.
- Strong practical knowledge of New Zealand payroll requirements, employment legislation and the Holidays Act.
- Experience working with complex payroll, time and attendance and enterprise HR/payroll systems.
- Exposure to collective agreements or unionised environments would be advantageous.
- Strong reporting, systems and analytical capability.
- A conscientious approach with excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
- A practical, curious mindset - adaptable, collaborative and always looking for ways to improve.
Experience with SAP, Workday, GlobalView or comparable enterprise systems would be useful, while payroll or business-related qualifications are welcomed rather than essential.
That takes another little bit of weight out without losing anything meaningful.
Why Join? This is an opportunity to take on a broad, senior-level specialist role where your payroll expertise will be genuinely valued.
You'll remain close to the detail and importance of payroll while broadening your involvement across HR systems, analytics, process improvement and service delivery within an international business.
Christchurch Engine Centre also offers a competitive remuneration package, performance bonus opportunities, professional development and career pathways, discounted services, wellness initiatives and secure onsite parking.
It's particularly well suited to someone who enjoys payroll and HR but doesn't want their next role to be purely transactional.
