About the Role Fern is passionate about keeping the heart of New Zealand pumping. As the organisation continues to grow, they are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Marketing Manager to lead the marketing function and ensure it plays a central role in delivering customer growth, supporting the Sales team and achieving Fern’s commercial objectives.
This newly shaped leadership role is accountable for developing Fern’s marketing strategy, strengthening strategic partnerships and ensuring marketing investment delivers measurable business outcomes.
Working closely with the Chief Sales & Marketing Officer and Sales leadership team, you will translate customer and market insights into initiatives that attract new customers, strengthen existing relationships and support sustainable revenue growth. You will also lead Fern’s strategic marketing partnerships, maximising opportunities that strengthen its market position and customer value proposition.
Success in this role will be measured not only by the strength of Fern’s brand, but also by the contribution Marketing makes to customer growth, sales performance, strategic partnerships and overall business success.
What You’ll Be Doing - Developing and leading Fern’s annual Marketing Strategy, ensuring it delivers measurable commercial outcomes.
- Driving customer acquisition, retention and lifetime value through targeted marketing initiatives.
- Using customer, market and commercial insights to identify growth opportunities and inform business decisions.
- Leading Fern’s strategic marketing partnerships, including Farmlands, to maximise joint commercial opportunities.
- Owning and enhancing the Fern brand across all customer touchpoints.
- Leading digital marketing performance across web, email, social media and advertising channels.
- Managing marketing budgets and ensuring a strong return on investment.
- Providing strategic marketing advice and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Building a high-performing marketing function focused on commercial success.
What You’ll Bring You will be an experienced marketing professional who combines strategic thinking with strong commercial acumen. Fern is looking for someone who has:
- A tertiary qualification in Marketing, Business, Commerce or a related discipline.
- At least five years’ experience in a senior marketing, growth or commercial marketing role.
- A proven track record of developing and implementing marketing strategies that deliver measurable business outcomes.
- Experience managing marketing budgets and demonstrating return on investment.
- Strong leadership capability and experience developing high-performing teams.
- Exceptional stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- A customer-focused mindset and passion for driving growth.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
Experience in agriculture, rural services, fuel, retail or a related industry will be highly regarded, as will experience managing strategic partnerships and using CRM and marketing analytics tools.
