Chief Executive / Kaiwhakahaere Matua - Lead a deeply human, whānau-centred organisation through its next chapter
- Strengthen culture, systems and confidence across residential and supported living services
- Honour CRC's legacy while building the foundations for a sustainable future
Steady the waka. Strengthen the foundations. Shape the future. CRC Ltd | Ōtautahi Christchurch About CRCCRC is a long-established provider of residential, rehabilitation and supported living services for people with intellectual disabilities, mental health needs and other complex life challenges. Since 1997, it has supported people to live with greater independence, dignity, connection and choice.
At the heart of CRC is a strong sense of whānau. Many of the people supported have longstanding relationships with the organisation and regard CRC's homes, staff and wider community as an important part of their lives. Its comparatively small scale allows services to remain personal, responsive and grounded in each person's individual aspirations.
CRC is now entering an important period of renewal and is seeking a Chief Executive / Kaiwhakahaere Matua to provide stability, strengthen organisational capability and help define its future direction.
The roleThe immediate priority will be to build trust and confidence across the organisation. You will be visible and accessible to frontline staff, clients and whānau, supporting the leadership team while gaining a clear understanding of CRC's homes, supported living services and operational environment.
From there, you will lead the work required to strengthen structures, systems and accountability across the organisation. This includes people leadership, service quality, workforce capability, risk and compliance, financial sustainability, contractual performance and constructive reporting to CRC's shareholders.
This is not a role for someone who wants to lead from a distance. CRC needs a practical and grounded executive who is prepared to listen, engage and work alongside people, while also having the courage and judgement to address difficult issues and grow clarity and rigour across the organisation.
Once stronger foundations are established, you will help shape CRC's longer-term strategy, strengthen relationships with funders and sector partners, and explore opportunities for thoughtful growth. The challenge will be to develop CRC without losing the personal, whānau-centred identity that makes it distinctive.
Culture & communityCRC is committed to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, Enabling Good Lives, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, equitable outcomes and support that enhances the mana, choice and independence of the people and whānau it serves.
The Chief Executive will bring demonstrated cultural capability, an understanding of Te Ao Māori and a willingness to keep learning. You will support CRC to strengthen relationships with iwi, hapū, whānau, kaumātua and Māori organisations, and ensure culturally responsive, whānau-inclusive and person-directed practice is reflected in everyday services, decisions and organisational priorities.
About youYou will be a credible senior operational leader with experience gained in disability, health, mental health, social services, community services or another closely aligned environment.
You are likely to bring:
- Experience leading complex frontline or residential services
- A visible, values-led and relationship-focused leadership style
- Strong operational judgement and the ability to improve systems and accountability
- Confidence managing quality, risk, compliance, funding and financial performance
- The maturity to work constructively with shareholders, staff, whānau and external partners
- Strong stakeholder capability and the confidence to represent CRC with funders, sector partners and the wider community
- The ability to balance compassion with accountability and stability with necessary change
Previous Chief Executive experience would be valuable, although CRC is also open to an accomplished second-tier leader ready to step into whole-of-organisation leadership.
This is an opportunity to make a genuine and lasting contribution: protecting what is special about CRC while creating the clarity, capability and confidence required for its future.
