Help shape the volunteer network behind real community care Support the work of Christchurch City Mission by strengthening the network of people who make it possible. With around 200 active volunteers contributing across foodbank services, shelters, social enterprise and community initiatives, this role sits at the centre of how the Mission delivers support across Ōtautahi.
About the role This values-led role is responsible for the full volunteer journey - from first enquiry through to placement, engagement and recognition.
You will ensure volunteers feel welcomed, supported and well matched to meaningful opportunities, while working closely with team leaders to align volunteer capability with operational needs across a range of services.
It's a role that balances people and process - engaging with individuals from all walks of life while managing competing demands, maintaining structure and delivering a consistent, positive experience.
What you'll be doing - Building strong, trusted relationships with volunteers and internal teams
- Coordinating volunteer placement across multiple service areas
- Supporting engagement, retention and overall volunteer experience
- Managing interest from prospective volunteers, ensuring clear and thoughtful communication
- Partnering with team leaders to provide guidance and support around volunteer management
- Contributing to the ongoing development of volunteer attraction and engagement strategies
About you You're someone who connects easily with people and builds trust quickly. You communicate with care, set clear expectations and create environments where others feel welcomed and valued.
You bring a practical, organised approach and are comfortable managing competing demands. Your background may sit in recruitment, HR or coordination, supported by an appreciation for structure, systems and clear communication.
Importantly, you bring the maturity and judgement to work in an environment that can at times be complex and emotionally demanding - balancing empathy with appropriate boundaries.
