Shape the Future of Water Services in Aotearoa Water is one of our most valuable assets, and how we manage it today will shape our future. Safe, reliable and resilient water services are essential to the wellbeing of our communities now, and for future generations.
Selwyn Water is a newly established organisation developed to deliver drinking water and wastewater services across the Selwyn District. This entity represents a shift to a service-minded, future-focused approach.
As a council-controlled organisation, we are currently transitioning services from Selwyn District Council. We are a highly committed team working in a dynamic and agile environment, developing Selwyn Water from the ground up. Together, we’re shaping the direction of the organisation.
We have a strong vision for the future of Selwyn Water and are dedicated to doing the best for our community.
The Opportunity We’re looking for a Water Services Business Support Officer to join the Infrastructure Operations team and play a key role in supporting customer service, coordination and financial processes during our transition period.
This is an eight-month fixed term role that sits at the intersection of customer engagement, administration, and operational support. You’ll be working across a wide range of activities while helping the team establish and refine systems and processes as the organisation evolves.
In this role, you’ll be:
- Acting as a key point of contact for customer and stakeholder enquiries across phone, email, and in person
- Supporting billing and invoicing enquiries, including raising and processing invoices
- Coordinating new water connections, including arranging inspections and contractor engagement
- Assisting with applications, vetting processes, and regulatory inputs such as LIMs
- Supporting customer databases, systems, and process improvements
- Providing administrative and technical support to the wider Water Services team
- Assisting with contract processing, monthly claims, and financial administration
- Contributing to customer communications, portals, and service information
This is a role where no two days will look the same — you’ll be supporting the team across a broad range of operational and administrative activities.
What We’re Looking For You don’t need to come directly from the water sector, but experience in a similar coordination, administration, or operational support role will be important.
We’re looking for someone who:
- Has strong experience in a coordinator or administrative role
- Delivers excellent customer service and communicates clearly with a wide range of stakeholders
- Is highly organised and able to manage multiple priorities
- Has strong attention to detail and analytical thinking
- Is confident working across systems, data, and processes
- Takes initiative and is comfortable working in a developing environment
- Is proactive, solutions-focused, and comfortable taking ownership
Experience in water, infrastructure, construction, or local government environments would be beneficial but are not essential.
Why Join Selwyn Water? This is a rare opportunity to step into a role where you can genuinely make a difference to the success of our transition.
- Bring your experience to a function that is still being established
- Opportunity to be part of an organisation as it grows, innovative start up environment.
- Work life balance and flexibility.
- Varied role, work autonomously with the support of a talented team
