An exciting opportunity to help build the finance engine of Selwyn Water - hands on, fast paced, and genuinely impactful.

Shape the Future of Water Services in Aotearoa
Water is one of our most valuable assets, and how we manage it today will shape our future. Safe, reliable and resilient water services are essential to the wellbeing of our communities now, and for future generations.

Selwyn Water is a newly established organisation developed to deliver drinking water and wastewater services across the Selwyn District. This entity represents a shift to a service-minded, future-focused approach.

As a council-controlled organisation, we are currently transitioning services from Selwyn District Council. We are a highly committed team working in a dynamic and agile environment, developing Selwyn Water from the ground up. Together, we’re shaping the direction of the organisation.

We have a strong vision for the future of Selwyn Water and are dedicated to doing the best for our community.

The Opportunity
We’re looking for at least two Accounts Receivable Officers – including a senior to support the establishment and delivery of core financial processes during our transition period, particularly across billing, receivables and customer services.

These are fixed-term roles for eight months. These will suit candidates who enjoy getting stuck in, bringing order to moving parts, and being part of a high performing finance team.

In this role, you’ll be:
  • Managing accounts receivable processes including invoicing, cash receipting and reconciliations.
  • Engaging with customers to resolve queries and manage outstanding accounts and support payment arrangements
  • Identifying and resolving discrepancies or anomalies
  • Contributing to end-of-month processes
  • Supporting the wider finance team as systems, processes and reporting frameworks are established
This is not a “keep the seat warm” contract. You’ll be helping to build the engine while it’s running.

What We’re Looking For
You don’t necessarily need local government or utility experience, but you will need to bring solid, hands-on accounts receivable experience.

We’re looking for someone who:
  • Has a minimum of three years proven experience in an accounts receivable role.
  • Is comfortable working across systems, data, and detail without losing sight of the bigger picture
  • Can manage their time well in a busy environment
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, particularly when dealing with customer enquiries
  • Takes ownership and uses initiative
  • Is adaptable and comfortable working in an environment where not everything is fully set up yet
  • Is a team player who has a good sense of humour
If you’re someone who quietly gets things sorted, spots issues early and takes pride in doing things properly for customers, you’ll fit in well here.

Why Join Selwyn Water?
This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to help build a new organisation from the ground up.
  • Opportunity to be part of an organisation as it grows, innovative start up environment.
