Family Violence Kaimahi to join the team and support individuals and whānau to create safer futures.
The Role Working within Aviva's family violence services team, the Family Violence Kaimahi provides both individual and group-based support to people experiencing family violence and those at risk of using violence.
A key focus of the role is facilitating education and behaviour change programmes, particularly with tāne who use violence, supporting accountability, safety and positive change.
The role combines casework, group facilitation and community engagement, working alongside partner agencies to ensure individuals and whānau receive coordinated and timely support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating group programmes that support men who use violence to develop safer behaviours
- Completing client assessments and providing individual support and education
- Undertaking community-based work including home visits where appropriate
- Supporting clients through court processes and restorative justice meetings
- Building strong relationships with partner agencies and community providers
Group programmes typically run once or twice per week during term time and may involve groups ranging from five to forty participants.
This is a permanent full-time role (40 hours per week) working Monday to Friday within an 8am-9pm service span, supporting programme delivery including evening groups. An optional after-hours roster is also available.
Aviva provides a structured three-month induction programme for new kaimahi, including close supervision and opportunities to observe and co-facilitate existing programmes.
About You This role requires someone who is resilient, calm under pressure and able to build trust quickly with clients. Strong group facilitation skills and the ability to manage challenging behaviours are essential.
You will ideally bring:
- A relevant Social Work qualification and/or experience in the family violence or social services sector
- Professional membership with an approved body such as ANZASW, NZAC or NAPSS, or the ability to obtain this
- Experience working with individuals experiencing or using family violence
- Demonstrated group facilitation experience
- Strong relationship building and communication skills
- A commitment to supporting accountability, behaviour change and community wellbeing
- A full driver's licence
- Fluency in te reo Māori and a basic understanding of Pacific language (Samoan) is highly desirable
- Demonstrates the ability to engage respectfully with Māori and Pacific communities, incorporating culturally appropriate communication where possible

- Salary: $74,000-$77,000 depending on experience
