Bishop is partnering with a well-established, multi-site ANZ manufacturing business to appoint a
Head of Health, Safety & Environment.
This is a genuinely senior role with a broad remit across New Zealand and Australia. Christchurch is the preferred base, but strong candidates located elsewhere in NZ or Australia will be considered.
The opportunity The foundations of the FMCG manufacturing business are solid and safety performance and history are strong. The focus now is on lifting maturity and consistency across the ANZ operations – strengthening critical risk and SOP disciplines and bringing environmental leadership into sharper focus in a practical way.
Reporting to the CEO, you’ll work as part of the ELT and partner with senior leaders across operations and corporate functions, providing clear governance, insight and direction. Focus is on emotional intelligence, influencing skills and strategic thinking. This is a
centre of expertise leadership model – influence, coaching and alignment matter as much as technical credibility. You’ll be joining a capable, committed H&S and environmental cohort, with scope to stretch and develop emerging talent.
What you’ll be responsible for - Leading health, safety and environmental strategy and standards across an ANZ footprint
- Strengthening critical risk frameworks and embedding practical controls across sites
- Improving how SOPs and safe ways of working are operationalised, not just written
- Lifting environmental performance and ESG maturity in a pragmatic, commercially aware way
- Providing clear and meaningful reporting to the executive team and board
- Building strong partnerships with site leaders and supporting functions to drive sustainable improvement
Location & travel You’ll be part of an ANZ leadership team. Travel is purposeful and manageable, with periodic site visits across NZ and Australia (typically a few times per year, with flexibility depending on business needs and incidents).
About you You’ll likely bring:
- Senior HSE leadership experience within manufacturing, FMCG or similarly complex operational environments
- Comfort working across multiple sites and stakeholders, ideally across NZ and Australia or with the learning agility to bridge jurisdictions quickly
- Strong emotional intelligence and the confidence to challenge constructively
- A practical, coaching-oriented style with the ability to influence fast-paced operational leaders without becoming punitive or bureaucratic
- Experience engaging with executive teams and governance reporting
Why this role stands out - Real scope and influence at a leadership level
- ANZ remit and the chance to help shape how the function operates across locations
- A business with strong tenure, solid foundations and an “adult” culture of direct communication
- Competitive remuneration reflective of seniority and impact
